About Janet K Smith

JANET K SMITH is a writer and editor with a strong background in business and a certificate in professional purchasing. In 2002 she opened a computer sales and service company with her tech-savvy husband, where she put her talents to work writing a newsletter, and then a newspaper column for the business, along with a multitude of business correspondence.

In 2010, her first short story was published, quickly followed by another. As her interest in writing grew, so did her desire to know more about the foundations and principles that make up good writing. She received an Honourable Mention in the 2020 Surrey International Writing Contest and had her work published in Pulp Literature Magazine the following spring. By October 2021, she’d received a certificate in Creative Writing from Simon Fraser University, and in 2022, completed the SFU Editing program.

In 2023, Janet teamed up with Cat Rambo and created The Wayward Wormhole, an in-person, intensive writing workshop for science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers. The inaugural workshop was held in Castell de Llaes, a 10th century castle in Spain with Ann Leckie, Sarah Pinsker, Tobias Buckell, and Cat Rambo.

In 2024, The Wayward Wormhole opened in Rodeo, New Mexico at a luxury ranch located on 750 acres of breathtaking flora and fauna, along with Donald Maass, C.C. Finlay, Arley Sorg, and Minister Faust.
